“Is there enough light tonight?” - Cloudy days are a photographer’s dream!
The marine layer clouds covered the evening sky in Mission Viejo. This senior student of Capo Valley High School was ready for senior pictures but we all were a bit dismayed that the sun had disappeared. I remembered reading a memoir by Annie Leibovitz, one of my favorite photographers, who said she much preferred photographing when the sun was hidden by the clouds. The light that bounces all around creates softness and beauty that is a photographer’s dream!
Oso Creek Trail is a well loved path including by this senior who used to ride his bike under the trees after school was out at Newhart Middle School. Fence rails, bridges, side paths, and mosaics create a beautiful setting for a walk and for photography! We logged a lot of steps walking the trails for these photographs but it was worth it.
We chatted as we walked about the AP classes he is taking, about the limited number of jokes I know (it’s true!), and his future dreams and aspirations. High school is a great time in a kid’s life - full of difficulties and fun - and leaving it is bittersweet. Capturing these moments with photography creates a life long treasure.
I encourage my high school seniors to bring items with them that are significant. Props can include sports, music, books, and so much more. I was impressed by the tuba and baritone this senior plays in the orchestra at Capo Valley High School.
Package A of my senior portrait packages allows for a clothing change and extra time. Although the light was getting dim, we were able to capture some great casual moments with a clothing change and a brand new Bible that is special for this senior. Best of luck on your future!
